Rugby and basketball

Have you ever asked yourself where the games we play today originally came from? A lot of them are in fact very old, created more than 2000 years ago in the worlds of ancient Greece and Rome. Let’s have look at how they started.

Rugby and basketball
Rugby and basketball both have their origins in the ancient game of HARPASTON, whose name derives from a verb which means “intercept” or “to take hold of”. The basic aim of the game was to take possession of the ball in the hands of the opposing team. Basketball was officially invented in the last century in an American college by a teacher called Naismith, while rugby was named after the English private school where the game first became popular.
